Our Techniques

Find out more about the techniques used at the Windsor Chiropractic to help you regain optimal health.

Chiropractic provides a unique approach in detecting and correcting, structural, biomechanical and nervous system interferences and imbalances of your body.

To achieve these changes in your body, our Chiropractors use a number of highly effective adjustive techniques.

Different Techniques

If you ask 100 chiropractic patients to describe their adjustments, you may get 100 different answers! That's because there are many adjusting techniques (treatments) for chiropractors to choose from.

Our Chiropractors select techniques which will most effectively assist in achieving your specific health goals.

The primary adjusting techniques we use include:

SOT

Which stands for Sacro Occipital Technique. Sacro relating to the sacrum (the triangular base of the spine) and Occipital relating to the Occiput (the base of the skull). S.O.T is a form of diagnosis as well as treatment. It looks at the Sacrum and the Occiput and the balance of the spine and spinal fluid between these two points, it is truly holistic.

One major advantage of SOT is that adjustments may be gently administered, some utilizing the force of gravity (laying on Chiropractic Blocks which are placed under the pelvis).

Integral to S.O.T is correct cranial function, this is not only important in newborn and infants, though through out our lives.

Activator MethodsĀ®

We use one of the most popular "low force" chiropractic techniques in the world.

Activator Method is a system of spinal evaluation combined with a handheld spring loaded instrument called an Activator.

The activator provides a very specific, quick, low-force impulse to a joint, the impulse is so quick, it's many times faster than adjustments delivered by hand, the body's muscles are less likely to tense and resist the adjustment, most find this technique comfortable.

Thompson Technique

Thompson Technique was developed in the early 1950’s, and is both an analysis technique using leg check (originated by Dr. Romer Derefield and further developed by Dr. Thompson) and an adjusting procedure using a couch that was developed by Dr. Clay Thompson. The couch has segments that lift and drop away when a force is applied to your body, reducing the amount of force needed to move specific joints.

Diversified Technique

Is the classic Chiropractic technique developed by the founder of Chiropractic DD Palmer. It is the most widely used chiropractic technique and is the one most patients are familiar with. Diversified adjustments entails a high velocity, low-amplitude thrust that usually results in a change in position of the joint, and the cavitation of a joint (the popping noise created when is gas released from the joint) and most importantly a change to the proprioception of the joint. Whether a joint makes noise or not, is not an indication of the effectiveness of the adjustment. As the name implies, the Diversified Technique can be used to treat many of the joints in the body.

N.E.T.

The Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) is a mind-body approach to help stress related conditions. Developed in the early 1980s by Scott Walker, DC, NET is a psychosomatic stress reduction intervention procedure aimed at improving health.

History of Chiropractic Care

The profession of Chiropractic dates back to 1895. However, some of the earliest healers in the history of the world understood the relationship between health and the condition of the spine. Hippocrates advised: "Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases."

Herodotus, a contemporary of Hippocrates, gained fame curing diseases by correcting spinal abnormalities through therapeutic exercises. If the patient was too weak to exercise, Herodotus would manipulate the patient's spine.

A New Approach to Healing

Daniel David Palmer,or 'DD' as he is affectionately known amongst Chiropractors was born in Ontario, Canada, in1845. He moved to the United States when he was 20 years old. And after a 20 year period as a successful horticulturist and farmer turned his interests to natural healing.

DD performed the first Chiropractic adjustment in September 1895. Although various forms of manipulation had been used for hundreds of years, no-one had developed a philosophical or scientific rationale to explain their effects.

From that first adjustment, DD Palmer continued to develop the art, science and philosphy of Chiropractic and in 1897 established the Palmer School of Cure, now known as the Palmer College of Chiropractic, in Davenport, Iowa, where it remains to this day. Since its opening, chiropractic has developed rapidly and there are now colleges around the world and on every continent.

The word 'Chiropractic' comes from the Greek word their meaning 'hands' and praktos meaning 'done' i.e. 'Done by Hand'
